As part of my research on instrument maker Chris Knutsen, I've found out he had relatives in Echo Park as early as 1909 - namely his sister, Winnifred Hurtt.

She was married to scenic and fine artist Arthur Hurtt, who was a member of the California Art Club.

They lived on Mohawk near Mayberry from 1909 until Winnifred's death in the forties. Their home also had a studio in the back yard, which may have contained Hurtt artwork.

Winnifred had TB close to the turn of the century, which makes me think she may have moved to EP from the East to go to Barlow Hospital. (?)

Arthur worked for E.H. Flagg, a scenic backdrop company. I wonder if he also worked for the Edendale studios, as he lived very close to them.

Thanks,

Darrell

Sorry, one last thing - Winnifred also apparently had a light-opera career. The pair was also quite active in social circles, if you can judge by the society pages in the historical LA Times.

Does anyone here know anything more about this family?

Thanks.
