Researching your home's past has gotten easier now that the LA Public Library has put some of it's City Directories online.  The directories not only include the names and addresses of individuals over the years but, in some cases, their occupations. Thanks to "Bug" who sent the email below to  bring this to our attention:

Thank you for your online story about researching the history of your home in Echo Park. The links and information are outstanding. During the research I was doing, I discovered that you do not have to go to the Central Library's History dept. to look up the City Directories; some of them are online. The online search tool is a bit funky and so is the printing, but once you get the knack of it, it is fairly useful.  (Parking is $4 per hour for the first 2 hours at the Library, so searching at home is much cheaper.)
