If you wanted to go to Santa Monica Beach in 1926, what mode of transportation would you use and what streets would you travel on from Echo Park to Santa Monica?
I would guess you would take the street car, though I'm not sure which line. Temple and Glendale was a stop for both PE and LARy cars, and Sunset had several lines as well. Try the EPHS link to the Electric Railway Society - I think they have route maps.
I think that you could take either the Hollywood line east on Sunset or the Alvarado (Edendale/Burbank/Glendale) south through the subway tunnel at 2nd & Beverly into the P.E.'s subway terminal building on Hill. From there, you could take the "Santa Monica Air Line" or the line on Venice Boulevard.
I forget what year the subway was opened. Prior to that, you would have to travel toward downtown on Sunset.
