Historic Echo Park

My name is Chris and I’m working on a short term paper involving cults, communes, iconoclasts, and religious start-ups that formed/began in Echo Park. During some of my early stabs at internet research, I've found the more known faces: Jake Zeitlin and co., AS McPherson. Any suggestions as to helpful sources, etc? (I’ve been using Mike Davis’ and Daniel Hurewitz’s books pretty much exclusively. Any others would be helpful.) Leads are fine, I'll work on the heavy scholarship.

Thanks in advance for your time and any info you’re able to provide.

I don't know if you still need the info, but I would look up previous EPHS newsletters for our story on Victor Segno & Mentalism.
In July of 1971, I stayed w/two of my friends in a great, old, Queen Anne-era mansion on a hilltop in Echo Park (which was either owned by the Subud organization or had been "lent" for use by one of the members, can't remember which---Subud is not a religion, per se, more of a consciousness-raising, spiritual system of thought and practice based on the teachings of Bapak Muhammad Subuh Sumohadiwidjojo). I believe this hill-top structure (sadly) no longer exists in Echo Park, but, I could be wrong. I recommend contacting http://www.subudla.com/ or even the L.A. Chamber of Commerce for more information:

Hope this helps!
